Due to the material, this is normal for some bags and does not constitute a defect. The protruding fibers can simply be cut off with scissors.

If the side-release buckle on your ORTLIEB product is broken, we recommend the E187 repair buckle. This special buckle features a release mechanism and can be easily retrofitted.

This is generally possible. However, due to different hole spacings, the openings must first be welded shut after removing the old hooks before drilling for the QL1/ QL2/ QL2.1 system. Therefore, the bags must be sent to us for this retrofit.

If your handlebar bag is one of the first models (e.g. Ultimate1 or Ultimate2), it must be retrofitted before using our new mounts.

To find the right hooks, first measure the diameter of your upper rack tubes. If they are round and have a diameter of up to 16 mm, you can usually use new matching hooks without any problems.

Does your bag have a QL1 system? You can recognize this by the upper hooks being screwed with an Allen key. For this system, there are replacement hooks for rack diameters up to 16 mm. For larger diameters, there is no standard solution for the QL1 system.

Does your bag have a QL2 or QL2.1 system? With these systems, the hooks can be opened without tools and adjusted sideways. There are various replacement hooks for these, including for rack tubes thicker than 16 mm (e.g. for 18 mm or 20 mm diameter).

The lower anchoring hook on the bag can often be adjusted on current models: Unscrew the hook and rotate the plastic washer by 90°. This gives you a little more clearance to the rack if it is too tight.

The ORTLIEB Quick-Lock system is our proven, tool-free mounting system for bicycle racks.

Quick-Lock2.1 allows you to attach the bag to the hooks on the rack with one hand and remove it with a single movement.

Quick-Lock2.2 adds a movable spring to the QL2.1 system, which flexibly adapts to tube diameters from 10–18 mm.

Quick-Lock3.1 does not use fixed hooks: Here, the bag is clicked and locked into specially shaped mounting points on the rack or a permanently mounted Quick-Lock 3.1 bracket.

This depends on the Quick-Lock system of your bag and the bag itself. Please follow the mounting instructions carefully. You will find these on the respective product page in the downloads section or on our instructions page. After mounting, check that it is securely attached and does not wobble.

With Quick-Lock 2.1 and 3.1, the permissible load is 9 kg per bag, with Quick-Lock 2.2 even 12.5 kg per bag. Regardless of this, the maximum load specified by the rack manufacturer must not be exceeded – this value is usually indicated directly on the rack and may vary depending on the model. We recommend weighing loaded bags before each ride and adjusting your gear if necessary. Especially with front and rear racks (including lowriders) and heavy loads, the handling of your bike can change significantly.

Old Quick-Lock 3 bags fit easily on new Quick-Lock 3.1 mounts, but new Quick-Lock 3.1 bags must not be mounted on old mounts. You can easily recognize your system by the knobs: On the old Quick-Lock 3 they are flat, on the new Quick-Lock 3.1 they are round.

Yes, this is possible. Bags from the QL1 and QL2 families can be hooked directly into the QL3.1 rail. Just make sure they are properly engaged and do not slide forward or backward.

Our hooks are designed for round rack tubes up to 16 mm inner diameter, so square or rectangular tubes do not fit optimally – unfortunately, there are no adapters for this. If you use the QL2.1 system, you can try hooks with 18 mm (E211) or 20 mm (E193) inner diameter as accessories.
It is important that the hook is securely engaged after hooking in, so your bags stay firmly in place even on bumpy roads. Please check before every ride that everything is securely closed. Racks with rectangular or square tubes do not fit ORTLIEB bags optimally, as our hooks are designed for round rack tubes with a maximum inner diameter of 16 mm. There are no adapters for square tubes.
If your bag has the QL2.1 system, hooks with 18 mm (E211) or 20 mm (E193) inner diameter are available as accessories. You can try whether these larger hooks fit your square rack. It is important that the hook is closed after hooking in, i.e. the moving part is engaged, otherwise there is a risk that the bags will come off during the ride. Always make sure your bags are securely and firmly attached.

It is possible that signs of use may appear on your bike or rack. To best protect your bike, we recommend covering all contact surfaces with protective film. Regular cleaning of the mount, rack, and frame also helps prevent abrasion and keeps your bike looking good for a long time.

You can easily loosen the lower hook with a coin to adjust its position.

For the upper hook, you can use our QL2.1 hooks, which are available in 16 mm, 18 mm, and 20 mm sizes.

The lower hook can be flexibly adjusted to tube diameters from 10 to 18 mm with the QL1/2/2.1/2.2 anchoring hook.

For your safety and to avoid damage to the material, we advise against mounting the handlebar bag mount on a carbon handlebar.

The mounting cable is an important component for the secure and reliable hold of your handlebar bag. It is designed to universally fit a wide range of handlebars and stems. When tightened, the screws securely clamp the cable.



If you remove the handlebar bag adapter and want to reattach it or mount it on another bike, you should also use a new mounting cable. The old cable has already been stressed at the clamping points, similar to a self-locking nut. To ensure optimal hold and maximum safety and to prevent possible breakage, a new cable is the best choice for you.

Your Up-Town handlebar basket is slightly larger than our Ultimate handlebar bags, which creates a greater leverage effect on the mount. For your safety, especially if the basket is loaded up to 5 kg, we include a special, thicker cable with every basket. This must be used instead of the standard steel cable of the ORTLIEB handlebar mounts.

Therefore, for the Up-Town basket, it is important to use an ORTLIEB mount with this special cable so you are always safe on the road.

The distance between the two bars of our handlebar mounts varies depending on the model: For the standard mount (E185/E225) it is 50 mm, while for the special e-bike mount (E207/E226) it is 73 mm.

Yes, you can also use ORTLIEB handlebar bags with Syntace VRO handlebars. Please note, however, that the stem is no longer adjustable after mounting the bracket. This combination is therefore ideal if you prefer a fixed handlebar position and do not plan to change it regularly.

As soon as a bag (e.g. trunk bag, basket, or case) is mounted on top of the rack, the upper rack tubes cannot be used for panniers at the same time. This applies to both Top-Lock and Rack-Lock system bags. Therefore, it makes sense to use a rack with a second, lower rail where the panniers can be attached.

Alternatively, you can try mounting the QL3.1 rail (item no. E201) lower on the side so that panniers with the QL2.1 system can also be attached there. Just make sure that the bags are securely locked onto the QL3.1 rail and cannot slide forward or backward.

Combining your Back-Roller bags with the Rack-Pack is easy and very practical! You can find detailed instructions on how it works on our YouTube channel. Please note that Back-Roller City bags unfortunately cannot be combined with the Rack-Pack.

Your Up-Town or Trunk-Bag is designed for racks with parallel struts that are between 60 and 160 mm wide. Safe mounting is unfortunately not guaranteed on tapered, i.e. sloping, struts.

To protect your high-quality carbon seat post, Saddle-Bags, Micro-Bags, and Seatpost-Bags should not be mounted on it. The clamping could damage the carbon material.

The standard mount of the Saddle-Bag is not suitable for comfort saddles with coil springs or similar constructions. With our separately available strap set (F96E), you can also attach your Saddle-Bag securely and reliably to such saddles.

No, the water bags are only suitable for transporting and storing water.

Please do not fill boiling water into ORTLIEB water bags. The maximum temperature should not exceed 60° Celsius.

Although the material of the Folding-Bowl can withstand high temperatures, we recommend using water no hotter than 45 degrees Celsius for rinsing or filling.

For hygienic cleaning and disinfection of your water bags from the inside, we recommend using regular denture cleaners or special drinking water disinfectants available from outdoor retailers.

Yes, this is possible.

For production reasons, we cannot lubricate the zippers at the factory. To ensure your waterproof TIZIP zipper runs smoothly and remains watertight, we recommend using the lubricant included with some of our bags. This is optimally matched to the zipper. If you need more, the lubricant is also available separately as an accessory.

To ensure that products with a sealing lip (Quick-Seal-Closure) can always be opened and closed easily, it is helpful to occasionally maintain the closure with a little silicone grease. Please refer to the care instructions for your product. Simply wipe off excess grease with a soft cloth to protect your clothing and other gear from stains.

Yes, there are differences in the construction and care of these two types of zippers.

The zipper with visible teeth, as found on our Duffle for example, consists of an extremely robust, polyurethane-coated fabric. The extra-strong plastic teeth are securely attached to the fabric tape. When closed, the closure parts press a sealing lip together to ensure waterproofness. For permanently smooth operation, this zipper can occasionally be treated with a little silicone grease at the end piece.



The zipper with no visible teeth when closed, as on our Big-Zip, is a very durable plastic spiral zipper on a sturdy fabric. Here, the two spiral halves are securely embedded and fixed in a plastic profile. When closed, the sealing lips above and below the spiral are pressed tightly together. This type of zipper should be lubricated along its entire length from time to time for permanently smooth function and optimal waterproofness. These products therefore come with a special silicone-based lubricant and care instructions.

The fastening plugs of your pannier carrying system or carrying system are designed to snap firmly into the edge protector for an absolutely secure hold. Therefore, a little more force may be required when loosening or pulling them out. The best way is to grip the plug firmly and pull it out with a determined jerk and a bit of momentum.
